I am not a morning person (I work evening shifts), but to snag a parking spot at Icehouse Canyon, you gotta beat the sun. I love the final portion to Ontario peak, but I will admit that the hike DOWN icehouse canyon has never been one of my favorites lol! A 3.6 necessary evil in order to see the beauty that lies beyond the saddle. So many great hikes from up there! It was hot in LA, but up in the mountains there was a soft breeze most of the day and frequent tree coverage. I always love the expansive views – seeing the layer of smoke from the fires was sad but always important to visualize.
