Definitely go clockwise. It would be brutal, but going down will be good. Lot of people on the trail. Everyone was courteous and nice. Weather was very nice with a cool breeze and not too hot even when coming down. Please be careful on the devil's backbone. There are some sketchy spots on that trail. Fire road down was a breeze.
