The beginning of this hike is beautiful. The creek, tree coverage, and scenery is so delightful. Since my group and I already did Cucamonga Peak, I felt like I had a good idea of what I was in for. After passing the saddle, we continued toward Ontario Peak. It was very charming going up. The sun was on the other side of the ridge so we had ample shade coverage. Towards the top it was pretty warm. I started feeling very warm once we started past the outline of a house (or something?). We powered past that as quickly as possible, got to the top, and took a break at the top. The view was amazing. We saw several lookout points along the way and soaked in the views. The tree at the top was beautiful. Dead, but so unique. Shortly after, we headed back. The way down was more difficult than the way up in my opinion. I wish I could say that I live for the down hill but I don't. The descend takes a toll on my knees. Also, now that it is later in the day, the sun was above us and beating down. I love a nice sunny day at the beach, on a hike though, I appreciate every bit of shade available. Towards the end of the hike, Ernesto and I were busy capturing waterfall/ creek pictures and then Diane fell. No one ever wants to fall and get injured, but when you are tired those large rocks and step-downs really take a toll on you. She is ok luckily, but it is a good reminder to get the trekking poles out when you start feeling fatigued AND to stay with the group. A group of hikers helped her when she slipped but I wish we were there for her and could have saved her from the embarrassing accident.
