Old service road turned hiking trail, wide, and ground lava cinder, so expect to bring some of that home in your shoes. 🙂

I thought this was going to be an easy hike because of the surface and the fact that there's not any climbing, large rocks or other obstacles on the trail, but it was a butt-kicker in its own right. We completed it in 2 hours and 45 minutes, making it the quickest of the six peaks for us.

The first two miles are relatively easy and the ascent gets steeper at mile 3. We climbed the fire tower but did not get invited in. I think she was preparing and eating her breakfast. The 360 degree views are great without going in though. Nice views of the San Francisco Peaks along most of the trail. There was smoke in the air from a prescribed fire in the distance.

Thanks for introducing me to a trail I would not have otherwise tried. This was peak 4 of 6 for Ron and I. On to Kendrick next.
