I've hiked Baldy twice before, but this was my first time going up the Baldy Bowl and down the Devil's Backbone route. And I have to say it was my favorite way to conquer the peak! Was it easy? Hell no! Was it satisfying and fun?? Hell yes! It was my sister's first peak in SoCal (she's hikes in Colorado and NorCal) and I think she liked it too. The trees looked great and the waterfall had a surprising amount of water for late August. It was a weekday so the peak wasn't crowded, which I always appreciate.
