Got to the Rhus Ridge trailhead at around 7:30 and couldn't find any parking. We decided to drive to the suggested starting point at Laura Ct and start from there.

Today was just John and I. Weather was pretty good, cloudy in the morning and then cleared up as the day continued. The trail was decently dry considering it rained yesterday and the day beforehand. There was still some parts that was muddy though.

The hike started with a steep grade for the first mile and then went to a steady incline afterwards. The last mile had a pretty steep incline as well. Apparently there was some mountain lion research going on at the open preserve when we went. Didn't affect us as the trail was opened; also didn't see any mountain lions. We did however see some wild hares, deer and a coyote on this trail.

We encounter people along our way, mostly trail runners. This was shocking as I typically don't encounter that much trail runners during my hikes. I can see why this preserve is popular for this though as the trail is well maintained and I'm sure there's other routes that's longer and with less incline than what we did.

Honestly, this hike isn't that great. The summit point has nothing to see and there isn't that much viewpoints as you go up either. The best part about the hike was walking along the power lines. This sounds minuscule but it's a rare opportunity that most trails don't have.
