Organized two groups of friends from several local running and racing clubs to meet up for this hike. Our group of 7 started from the Woods trail at Hicks road – a 17 mile hike, round trip. The other group started from a parking lot about half way up, an 8 mile round-trip to the summit. The first thing we learned was that the gates to park do not open until 7 AM, and then the lots fill up quickly! The trails were fairly spacious and in excellent condition. The weather was perfect last Saturday. We had originally planned to do this hike in January, but it ended up snowing that weekend, so we moved the hike to Feb 8th.
Starting out, we were already above the fog line, so had the pleasure of looking down on this beautiful sea of fog all the way up the mountain. There was a steady stream of hikers and runners on this trail, we saw lots of friends, but spaced out enough that it didn't feel crowded. For many of us, this was our first trip up Mt. Umunhum. Some writeups I saw said this trail was boring, but we found great views all the way up, and only one or two places where it was somewhat steep, otherwise mostly switchbacks all the way up. Highly recommend. Represented: BeBoldBeBrazen TooLegitFitness RunLocal510 Taji100 TeamRWB P2P
