Should have reapplied sunscreen- my arms got a little red. The trail was dusty as is typical there. There are two small reroute sections due to downed trees. Most if the trees that were on trail have been cut and or moved so the trail is pretty easy to follow. Gorgeous wild flowers and butterflies in the top 1/3 of the trail today. There was increasing smoke from a fire south west cascades area but the views still were impressive and inspiring. I really like the views from atop Black Crater. I will definitely return in the future on a clear blue sky day. I was quite dirty after ending the trail, if ya have low gaiters it might help reduce the silt from building up on your shoes. Anyway i recommend this trail. The burnt section is finally growing substantial plants which makes for some opportunities to see the rebirth of a desolate fire scar area. The silver tree are actually stunning against the blue skies.

Congratulations Vernon! You are (I think) the first finisher for 2023!
Too cool! This has been my 3rd year attempting this challenge and i wanted to get them done before fires made it too challenging to do. I live in Salem so i appreciated the alternatives this year! I am gonna try and do all 9 but fire smoke has already gotten pretty heavy.
