First trip up to Muir on a sunny Saturday morning. It's a grind for sure: all uphill in the snow in mid-May right from the visitor center. A few false summits and a slog that felt eternal made it demoralizing at times, but the views don't quit and it's a great feeling of accomplishment making it to camp.
Tips:
My group followed the boot path up and used spikes & poles. We also brought axes and did some glissading on the way down – there are some well established chutes and it was super fun!
The sun up there is intense: we applied sunscreen at every break point and still got a little burned. Packing sunscreen is a must. I also recommend a lightweight long sleeve shirt to cover arms and really to cover as much skin as possible. Gaiters are nice to have as well.
