Rose Peak, from Sunol. 19 miles and 4000 foot vertical. Chilly and blustery hike. 53 weeks after my previous time here, and alot colder! Four down, and two to go, for the 2019 Northern California Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge I better get moving! (Taking a selfie, and holding the banner, in the wind, was a bit tricky!)

  1. What time did you get to the park? It says the park opens at 8, but I was planning to get there hours before… I was wondering if they actually lock it up

  2. Official hours are 8:00-5:00 in winter. There is a gate, but other people were in before 8:00. You might get in at 7:30 or 7:45, or call to ask. No parking on nearby streets, either!

    1. I got there at 7:58. Leaving after 5:00 is OK. They lock the entry gate, but not the exit gate (with the one-way tire spikes)

        1. My Strava track: https://www.strava.com/activities/2935971877 It was cold when I started, then it got cold and blustery again at the top. This definitely the longest of the Six Pack! Pretty straightforward… bring a paper or downloaded map. No phone signal in the parking lot. Only a few sections are steep and very little mud. Mostly a fairly even grade…all day long! Enjoy.
