This was my first year participating in the Climb for Heroes. The first part of the hike was brutal! I kept a slow and stead pace. Made it to the Notch with some of my team members and we took a break, fueled up a bit then kept on trekking. I have hiked Mount Baldy before but I normally go up the Ski Hut Trail and up the Baldy Bowl then down devils backbone. Since I was going up the way I normally come down I noticed it is a bit easier, not a whole lot easier but a bit easier to where I can keep a steady slow pace. Once I reached the base of Modor (thats what I call the last part of switchbacks up to the summit) I took a quick break then headed up. I started to run out of energy going up Modor and I at the moment when I was already on the verge of crying because I was starting to get upset at myself for not going faster I ran into one of my friends Art who was coming down. He gave me a hug and a pep talk and told me “You got his gurl!” He gave me that last push I needed to make it up Modor. I kept trekking on even though I felt like throwing up and then I saw the summit at level eye and I was there! Overall it was a great hike and the fact that this summit was also part of Climb for Heroes made it even that sweeter to push for that peak! 3 down, 5 to go for all 8 peaks!
