The day after summiting Ontario and Big Horn, I came back for Cucamonga. It was a nice cool morning and very few people out on the trail since it was a Monday. After Ice House Saddle I began the trek to Cucamonga. It was warm on the north side of the mountain, so I paused to remove my outer layer. I came around a bend and saw a naked hiker. I was quite shocked, this was my first experience with a naked hiker. But upon further research, turns out this is a thing. When I got to the notch before starting up the final ascent the wind was whipping like crazy. So as I climbed to the final peak, each time I was on the south side it was windy and quite cold but on the north side it was warm and barely breezy. Made for an interesting final ascent.

It was beautiful at the top, much larger than Ontario, and it took me a minute to find the peak and the sign where everyone takes their pictures. It looked like a lot of nice windbreaks and places to set up camp. Definitely a thought for future adventures.

  1. That’s crazy! I’m not a prude, but I just thing of the places that could get sunburned, or poison oak, or chaffing.

  2. Well, I did encounter two hikers, wearing neckties, strumming pink plastic ukuleles, lost, out of water, and smoking joints on an extremely hot and dry day. I should have taken a picture.
