Beautiful day and to hike Cuyamaca Peak…. Clear skies and perfect temperature. Started out just before 9am and only came across a few people the entire hike. I recommend hiking counterclockwise. The trail was in good condition, the snow is gone, water is running, and there are some muddy areas, however they are easily traversable.

At about the 3 mile mark you run into a stream which runs right down the trail for a little way, however not deep so you can easily walk through it or around it. At about 4.25 miles you’ll hit a fire road off the Conejos Trail. At that point you’ll head up the asphalt fire road to the peak for the last .75 miles. You have to scramble a bit up a small rocky area and duck under some low branches to get to the peak. Beautiful views make the hike so worth it.

To complete the trail loop you’ll descend on the fire road, which is somewhat boring.  However, you can always take the Conejos trail back down which also would add a couple more miles to your hike.
