Tough hike y’all! But fun! We opted to start from the Rockpile TH due to the road conditions mentioned previously but…. Wound up on the crap road anyway. In a Mini Cooper ?. We actually we able to maneuver through the obstacles since the car is so small. It was quite the adventure just getting to the TH and definitely not recommended! We were able to take the good road home, through Oakridge, which was easy peasy. The actual hike up the mountain is challenging but doable and totally worth it. Bring extra extra water!!! And have some car snacks and beverages ready at the end because you’ll be willing to pay $20 for an ice cold Gatorade!

    1. Can you describe how to take ‘the good road in’ for out-of-staters?! What would we put in our google maps? And how long would it take to drive from Sunriver? Thank you!!!!

      1. I would buy a real map, cell service is not good out there.
And Google will do everything in it’s power to take you on the shorter (crap) route *eyeroll*
You could put in a couple campgrounds found along the way to ensure Google takes you along the paved roads and well maintained gravel roads ONLY – Packard Creek Campground on Hills Creek Lake and Sacandaga Campground will ensure you are on the right path (which is paved most of the way)
