I've been pretty slow at posting my hikes, but Baden Powell is one of my SoCal favorites. It's got just about everything a casual hiker up to someone training for bigger hikes can offer. Oh and the switchbacks!! ❤️❤️
This was the week before I'd solo Mount Whitney, so whilst I wasn't getting the elevation of San Gongorio, I set myself a challenge to summit in less than 90 minutes. Having seen someone rave on AllTrails they did it in less than 100 minutes.
So I hit the trailhead and blasted my way up, one switchback after another gaining elevation like a madman, always with one eye on the clock.
I typically stop to take in the views, but being on the clock I powered ahead, knowing I could enjoy the views on the way down. Reaching the saddle after passing a bit of snow, I gazed up at the summit and made one last fanatic push, reaching the stars and stripes in 84 minutes (did not run).
Celebrated and took in the views with a 9am frothy and said g'day to a whole bunch of PCT hikers. Hope they are still at it on their way to Canada.
Always make a day of this hike and spend some time in Wrightwood. 🍻🏔🥾
Until next time 🤙
