The 3-2-1 Challenge encompasses three peaks over two counties and completed in one day.
Of the three peaks, only Sawmill is part of the 6 Pack of Peaks Challenge. Sawmill was my fifth Six Pack of Peaks.
Phil, who my dad and I first met at Ontario, led the Facebook Group “Hike Beyond the Hills” through a Saturday excursion. Thanks to all the @slothy_socal_hikers, we had peak signs for 📸.
At the peak, we ran into many cute dogs again. 🐕 We also heard a church group playing music at Condor Observation Point.
ℹ️
Starting from Cerro Noroeste, we took the reverse route leading to Grouse Mountain first and ending at Mount Pinos. This route is more remote and picturesque than starting the route from the Nordic Base. The only downside is the steep 3/4 mile trek back up to the parking lotnto finish the hike
Each peak stands above 8,500 feet. The taller two are Sawmill Mountain and Mount Pinos. Sawmill is the tallest peak in Kern County (home to Bakersfield), standing at 8,818 feet. Mount Pinos is the highest pont in Ventura County, the only peak of the three not in Kern, standing at 8,848 feet.
🥾 10.5 miles
