We had gotten a hotel last week for the 17th and 18th of July up by San Bernardino just so we could hike San Gorgonio in preparation for Mt Whitney July 30. Once up there we found out the trail was closed due to fires. We stayed the first night then went back to San Diego the next day. We were so disappointed. So, in order to prep for our upcoming hike, we hiked to Bighorn Peak then up to Ontario Peak, we double peaked it. Clocked in 19 miles, with an elevation gain of 4,528 feet. The peaks are very exposed, it was a hot day, 100 degrees up there. We were prepared, we had plenty of water and shade gear. The views were amazing from every direction. We even saw the sad cloud of smoke above the San Bernardino Mountains.
