Piestewa Hike - Winter challenger Flo says "Solo sunset hike. This hike is all too familiar. I prefer hiking it at sunset for the colors and city views as it gets dark. This also means I finish in the dark, but this trail is heavily trafficked it seems no matter what time of day, so I never feel unsafe. Great climb and worth the sweat."

Kudos to Arizona Summer Six-Pack of Peaks Challenger Naomi and her friends for their summit of Kendrick Peak.

"This was such an emaculate hike!! I arrived with a friend before the crack of dawn at 5:40am (I had to be back to Phoenix by 3pm), and we began our hike at 6:15am when we were graced with some light from the pending sunrise. There was only 1 other vehicle parked at the trailhead when we arrived. The temperature was in the 40s upon arrival and was in the high 60s to extremely low 70s by the time we finished. Kendrick Peak offers a gradual incline that takes you through wooded terrain that was full of wildflowers, pine trees, and green brush that provided plenty of shade.

This trail was easy to follow since its long switchbacks served as a guide. We saw 1 deer, several squirrels, and 1 snake (it was small and not a rattlesnake. We simply allowed it to cross the trail in front of us. Not a threat at all!). We were mindful of the thunderhead that was approaching since it started to shower. But the thundercloud didn't last and detoured away from us. We enjoyed an awesome breeze as we made our way to the top, and took a break on the landing pad near the ranger station. As we made our way down the mountain, we saw many more hikers (and their dogs) that started their hikes much later than we did. We completed our hike in 4:38 hrs/mins. just in time for lunch, and made our way back to Phoenix by 3pm. Overall, I loved this hike and would highly recommend!!"

"Kendrick Peak is a lie!" Six-Pack of Peaks Challenger Kyle expresses his feelings about mileage estimates on AllTrails vs reality. AllTrails listed this hike as 9.3 miles. On http://socalhiker.net/?utm_campaign=coschedule&utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=sixpackofpeaksarizona&utm_content=Kendrick%20Peak%20is%20a%20lie, Richard logged it as 9.4 miles. Kyle logged 10.6 miles, which seems like a small difference, but is more than 10% longer. But hey, the views were pretty spectacular!
