Ontario is a very very long hike, so be prepared for a time commitment. We started at just before dawn and it took us a solid 9 hours to finish. The first section of trail is a lengthy walk through the gorgeous woods alongside a river with cabins, some in use and some destroyed. Then it steadily rises towards the saddle where you are exposed to, even in October, the chilling wind. Then you get to explore another long section of trail through a campground or two trying to keep an eye on the path as it may be hard to see through the pine needles. Then it rises again for another few hours to a false peak where there are several spots with fallen trees blocking the path. After that you just have to be patient and keep trekking upwards until you hit the peak which has a huge dead tree and an amazing view of Los Angeles from above the clouds.
