We had started this hike last week and realized we did not bring enough water. So we turned back. More determined then ever to conquer what has been deemed the toughest trail in San Diego. Yesterday my Girlfriend and I set out after work with more then the recommended amount of water and trail snacks. Feeling confidant about our supplies we reached our turn around spot from last week (Mile post 2.5) in a hour and a half. Making good time we pressed on.
We were not expecting the brutal our legs would endure. The trail is VERY steep and unforgiving. The descents are in return, just as brutal. You will crest approximately 4 peaks before reaching the saddle of ECM. Its another 3rd mile up a builder field to the summit of ECM.
We came back down the mountain, sweaty, exhausted and dirty, but unbelievably grateful for an opportunity to get our butts kicked from such a gorgeous mountain. I highly recommend this hike. Bring a LOT of water and plenty of snacks. Pace yourselves as well. We hit the trailhead at 4:30pm and arrived back at our vehicle at 11:22pm. Cresting the mountain at 8:08pm.
