Our #Friyay made for an epic day of adventure in San Diego County. We set out to hike 2 peaks out of 18 peaks for 2020 annual #sixpackofpeaks challenge—and earned some d’lish pizza and Julian’s famous apple pie after our hike. We drove total of 250 miles, 6 hours drive time ????.
What’s a little drizzle ????, but we came prepared ☔️. First peak was Mt. Woodson in Ramona and, yes, it drizzled continuously all the way to the top. Total 4.5 miles r/t, 1400’ elevation gained, total of 1.5 hours r/t. It’s a thigh-burner, straight up to the top. Afterwards, we drove 28 miles on Highway 78 to Julian for our next peak, Volcan Mtn. No more rain, but slick, muddy trail on our way up. Fortunately, the trail dried up some on our way down. Total of 5 miles r/t, 1300’ elevation gained, total 2 hours r/t.
Back on Hwy 78 in Wynola, from Volcan Mtn Trailhead, awaited our reward for some delicious Margherita pizza at Wynola’s Pizza and Bistro, and homemade apple pie at Mom’s Apple Pie. Perfect ending before a 3-hour drive home to OC. ⛰????
