Great elevation gain and great climbing. We had a gorgeous day given the abundance of cloudy days this spring in AZ, it was perfect. When not moving and in the shade it was actually chilly. Bright blue skies with a strong breeze. Never took very long to warm up as the hike gets aggressive quickly after any rest stop. The last mile or so there was some obvious trail disruptions from the heavy rains with fallen trees and lots of unearthed rocks. The last bit of the climb is really a “climb” with hands and feet working together to get yourself up some serious crevices. The last one is very serious for the casual hiker but once up its a nice walk along the ridge to the awesome reward. Stand on the edge of the flatiron and look down! But be careful!
