Mt Umunhum trail has been acquired by Open Space Preserve for public recreation since 2017 but this is the first time I've been here.
I've heard many good reviews about it but was not willing to drive the winding roads to access it.
Parked at Bald Mountain parking lot at 10am on Sunday.  Foggy and 50 degrees temp.  Public restrooms at this parking lot and at the summit parking lot.
The 8 miles hike with 1150 elevation gain took 1.5 hrs up and 1 hr down.
Shaded trail was well maintained, beautiful greens everywhere – trees, bushes, and grasses; still too early for the upcoming super wildflower bloom.  Saw a wrecked VW Beetle down the hillside from the trail.  Guadalupe Creek was flowing steadily from our wet season.
Site of the huge box at the top covered in heavy fog looked dreamlike.  On the way down, skies cleared up to breathtaking views of the valley.  Another great hike.
