*sing to the tune of the Power Rangers theme song…it was either that or “Where in the World Is Carmen Santiago”*
Since the Holy Jim trail is closed, the only route I am my compatriot could find was through Silverado Canyon, starting at the Maple Springs Trailhead. Paved for a couple miles, then a truck trail / fire road to the top. Pretty much Palomar after its initial ascent, but for 20+ miles (also 5ish pavement). Kind of drudgery, but one foot in front of the other, we got on up there. Nice views kept emerging; wish I had a better cameraphone. Lots of time to think and listen to music; my compatriot and I talked until we gave me permission to go ahead of him at my pace. I'd do this hike again only if and when Holy Jim opens up.
