I started my hike around 8:00AM at the Mill Creek Trailhead, with the intention to hike only to Mount Raymond (10,197’) and then return the same way. However, once I was on the summit of Mount Raymond and I saw Globblers Knob (10,220’) two miles away, I decided to do it! It was the best decision, because as Forrest Gump said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.” And that applies to my decision to hike Gobblers Knob! I was hiking solo and it was my first time on this trail, and to be honest, I took my time enjoying the views and taking pictures.
When I reached the summit of Gobblers Knob, I found a young couple there. We talked a little and she offered me an energy bar. As we continued talking, I realized they didn't use the same trail I did. I asked them which way they came up and they told me they went straight up on the full snow side of the mountain (without mountaineering equipment)! I WAS SHOCKED! I took some pics and they started going down. Spontaneously, I asked them if they will go back the same route and if I can join them.
They allowed me to go with them and this is where the ADVENTURE began! I started glissading down the mountain at extremely high speeds, running down in the snow and having Fun. Honestly it was AWESOME. My final numbers were for a 12.5 mile loop and 5,060 elevation gain. From our conversations, I discovered they are far from rookie hikers. They finished the PCT NOBO in 2019 (that explained their experience in climbing that mountain). I was happy to meet these great people!
