Friday morning parking was fine. Hiked to Camp Kelly where we had the entire space to ourselves. Water just west of the camp is flowing strong. Saturday am hiked to the peak with a small day bag. Is was getting busy by 8:30, but there was still abundant silence and a stark blue sky. I love that ridge hike. Back at Kelly it was a total zoo: about 50 people were cooking, camping, playing with dogs, etc. It is wonderful that so many people find enjoyment there, but I prefer more solitude. I’m sure there were not enough camping sites, so try weekdays if possible. A ranger was checking permits, btw.
