You literally cannot get lost on this trail. Clear and well marked all the way to the summit, the trail is deceptively easy the first two miles but gets much steeper thereafter. Grays was cold and windy.
After descending part of the trail and traversing over to Torreys for some extra credit (can you really justify skipping Torreys when it's so close?), we descended via the traverse back to a lower portion of the Grays trail. There is some snow on a portion of this and it's slick enough to require one-way traffic, but we did fine without spikes.
In total, the hike took 6 hours, including tons of breaks (it's been a long two weeks of hiking leading up to this). We started at 4 a.m. due to lightening and rain between 1:30 and 3:30 a.m. Clouds were moving in fast and building by 10 a.m.; I would not suggest starting later than 6 or 7 given the way the weather has been this summer.
