Piestewa is a somewhat quick hike compared to many of the hikes in the challenge, and being just north of downtown Phoenix, it gives a great vantage point from which to see the way that Phoenix and the surrounding towns spread out throughout the valley. Being from out of town, the hike gave me a close in peak to get up and see how the cities of the metro area are laid out and have developed. As a hike that is very close to the city, there were many people on the trail, but most of the trail was plenty wide enough to give everyone space to enjoy their hike. Like I've found with on all of the peak trails around Phoenix, people were friendly and always shared the trail no matter what your pace was at the moment. Even though the trail rises out of the suburbs, it still gives a lovely hiking experience and beautiful views of both the natural and built environment.
I didn't find the trail to be quite as difficult as some of the other trails in the Challenge, particularly as the boulders were not as challenging, and think that with its close proximity to much of the Phoenix area that it could be a great training hike to do multiple times to get ready for the more difficult peaks, such as Flat Iron.
