My husband, some friends, and I got to the trailhead at 6:00 a.m. where we got our permit and started the hike. The trip up to the saddle was pretty standard. Once at the saddle we took a short snack break and then made our way up towards the summit. On our way up we did get surprised by a rattlesnake that was hidden under one of the many logs you have to climb over on the trail. This was my first experience being rattled at and I can't say that I care for it. We saw only a couple people on the trail, all were on their way down from overnighting on Big Horn Peak–no one but us was going to Ontario Peak. We had the peak to ourselves where we enjoyed lunch and some beautiful views. The way down was pretty warm but uneventful. We used our trekking poles to tap/hit every log on the way down just to make sure we didn't have any more surprises. Afterward, my husband and I made our way over to the Mt. Baldy Lodge where we enjoyed some burgers and a beer.
