Saturday March 30, 2019 was an absolutely beautiful day to hike Mount Saint Helena. The first mile, as reported by others, was through the tree covered forest and had lots of switchbacks. I honestly didn't realize how many switchbacks there were until the decent. The trail was confusing as it transitioned to the fire road and then again when close to the peak (by the cell towers). Stay to the right for both of those forks.
We got there early, so parking was no problem, but by the time we were leaving, people were parked all over the place and some looked to be blocked in. Keep that in mind. And don't forget your sunscreen, you will get hammered with sun for most of the hike.
As promised, the last 1/4 mile or so was a brutal incline at the top, but totally worth it. The views were exceptional. We've since purchased binoculars so that we can explore even more on our next hike – Diablo.
