The early bird catches the worm right? Well, the early bird also avoids loads of traffic and gets some relief from the sun! The first part of the trail was nice and shaded, a few bugs but nothing I couldn't manage to get past with a quick pace.

I'd like to think that I made a new friend on the trail, there was soo much chatting that before I knew it the hike was half-way over. I must admit that I was extra motivated to get to the summit and back because I had pie on the brain.  Julian Pie Company pie to be exact!

Since I used AllTrails to navigate to the summit, I should have known something was off when I reached a lookout point, but there was no Geodetic Survery marker. Thankfully two hikers came through and led me to the THREE Geodetic Survey markers 🙂 The view from the top was great! As usual and I got to see a bunch of beautiful butterflies.

The trail back to the car was pretty straightforward. I don't think anyone could really get lost here.  And since we were done earlier than anticipated, the group and I decided to try for another peak nearby!

PS. There is a Pokemon Go PokeStop at the summit.  If you don't know .. you don't know.

  1. quick question..did you park in campground or side of road? We are trying to do as sunset hike tomorrow night and I’ve parked in lot for stonewall peak before, but was hoping to park on side of road for later access to trail once parking lot closes at dusk…any tips?
