Convinced my partner to do the six pack of peaks with me as we’re heavy users of Angeles National Forest anyways, so why not make hiking into a game? We got off to a great start at the lovely hour of 5:15am, with barely digested breakfast and hastily drunk coffee sloshing around in our systems. Sunrise and magic hour, as per norm, did not disappoint. In fact, the trek up to Wilson went by quickly. At the summit, we enjoyed touring the observatory grounds. But then… we started hiking downhill. Existence (for knees and toes) became pain. We passed other several other hikers with dogs, and that provided temporary consolation because CUTE. But the trek down continued inexorably. I sought refuge in the plants, taking in the early wildflowers and verdant (for now) grasses and ferns, but they could only do so much. The rest of today will include: food, a nap, a hot bath, and as little activity as I can manage. Will also be petting my dog because I am not a heathen and she’s a good dog.
Looking forward to 5 more summits 😎
