Latest video of my hike to Ontario Peak.
Overall, a really difficult hike. Intermittent snow from the parking lot. It was pretty constant from the midway point to the saddle. Could have made it to the saddle without crampons going up. But coming down, crampons would made it a whole lot easier.
From the saddle. Going to Cucamonga was dangerous. That morning someone slipped off the area between saddles and cut themselves up pretty good. Then on my way out, there was a rescue helicopter in that gulch for a few hours.
On the Ontario side. Snow and ice all the way to the peak. If careful, could have made it up without crampons. But poles and crampons made the hike easier, but hard on the feet/ankles/knees. Definitely made the hike a lot more difficult.
Temperature wise, in the 40-50's, clear skies with no wind. Got a bit warm on my way down with the sun beating down along the Ontario slope. No bugs, no animals, very few people. Have to watch for falling ice from trees though. That was pretty much the only thing disturbing the silence along the trail.
