Yesterday’s New Year’s Hike was challenging but awesome! We started at 8 am, and the parking lot was as empty as we have ever seen it.
Everyone made it to the top and back down, although we did hike the last 60-90 minutes in the dark.
I’m guessing with the shorter days of winter this will happen more often. Temps were actually warmer than forecasted, but it was a good chance to get out there and get acquainted with carrying and using more winter gear.
We didn’t see any bighorn sheep this time around, and there were a few more people out on the trail than expected. Ontario Peak was more remote and beautiful than some of the other hikes I’ve done. It was a long hike, but worth it.
