Today was a very lucky day ~ normally this trail is full sun & no shade with biting flies/bugs but not today! The weather was cool with drizzle and 50ft visibility all the way to the top. After the first 2 miles, which is a narrow winding climb, the rest of your hike is on a fire road; at mile 3, it becomes a 4×4 road that takes you to the top. Look for days like today or go only during cooler weather. No bears but this is mountain lion territory so be prepared or hike in groups. I loved this hike and plan to come back. A campground is across the street & has the only bathroom around.
