This is my first big CA hike since moving here 2 months ago. I was using this hike to start training for Mt Whitney as well. What an amazing and tranquil experience. Started at 7am and got to the summit by 11. The weather was only about 60 but slightly humid so I wore t shirt and pants the whole way. Don’t forget to appreciate the running water and waterfall as you make your way to icehouse sadly. The summit was a mix of cold and warm spots. Several areas were freezing with 20 mph winds but if you moved into the sun it suddenly vanished and felt warm. Brought 3L of water but only drank 2 despite being a camel. When you get to the summit, there is a peak to the right where the sign is but the peak to the left is a little higher in elevation and more in the sun so I recommend that for lunch and photo ops. Overall a fantastic day and hike and I highly recommend this to anyone especially now that things have warmed up and the snow is gone.
