I loved the trail to the Fremont Saddle. Every bit of it was gave access to gorgeous desert landscapes. I especially enjoyed being down in the trees and greener section near the dry river bed. Being in a canyon for much of the trail, it was actually a bit cooler than expected when we started in the late afternoon, and it got a dark a bit earlier than expected when the sun went behind the canyon walls, but being out on the trail just before dark did allow us to witness a beautiful glowing desert sunset. Tip from a family member for anyone wearing prescription sunglasses–bring your regular glasses in your day pack, as those sunglasses will be way too dark if you find yourself walking in low light. The hike overall was “just right” in so many ways. Lots of varied terrain, but none of it too difficult, not too short, but not so long as to be exhausting. Completely away from the city, but not too far to make getting there burdensome. Just right.
