Early start to beat the heat. Spectacular sunrise over Lake Elsinore as I was winding my way up Ortega Highway toward the trailhead. Beautiful hike with gentle ascents up until the last 1/3 mile that requires some scrambling up its steep slope. Encountered bugs at the 2 mile mark until the 4-way junction. They were relentless; even my buff couldn't keep them out! I hiked back down via the Bear Ridge trail, which is a bit longer and more exposed, but great views and no bugs!
