If I was smart, I would have done this hike 23 years ago when I moved to flag.  But waiting until I was 56 seemed to be the plan!  Honestly, I had given up on even doing Humphreys due to my knees, but thanks to Social Hiker, Arizona Summer Six Pack of Peaks challenge, and my hiking buddy Barb, it happened!  I finally got to hug the infamous sign at the top!   This hike may be a “one and done” (jury is still out) but it’s definitely not a “never done!”
Aside from my aching feet, the hike went well.   Living in Flag, the altitude didn’t seem to be an issue, but this hike is no joke!  Good shoes and poles worked well for me!  Lots of stops, water  and snacks.    Took us 10 hours but we weren’t in a hurry, obviously!   As long as we got done by dark, so a good plan is to start early!!     Our Summer challenge is done.    Between the previous AZ Winter challenge and this one, Barb and I hiked 73 miles in 10 months!    My pup Timber hiked 24 of those.    What a great experience!
PS. Thank you Mother Nature!  Every hike we did had the best weather!
