Mount Baldy is so painfully good. The Ski Hut Trails was absolutely one of the most challenging hikes in Southern California I have ever experienced. It's literally 4.5 miles up to the summit of Mount Baldy. We had to pace myself and take lots of breaks due to the altitude change. This helps to avoid headaches and sickness. Every footstep/climb counted during the last mile. The climb up had some spectacular views of the mountains. The Summit was absolutely AMAZING! It felt like I was on the moon. The views took my breath away. There were many friendly hikers at the Summit. There were great vibes of accomplishment and being on top of the mountain. Weather conditions were sunny, clear and little wind. My only gripe is no place to sit and lots of rocks. When descending down the summit, we took it towards the infamous Devils Backbone to the Mt. Baldy Ski Resort Lodge. We ran into a group of RAMS on the trail, which was concerning. The last 3 miles on the fireroad to our cars were torture. But I was able to successfully pull through! But through all the pain and pleasure, I would do Mount Baldy next year.
