A good, long day hike. We started at Mankar and took the road up to the ski area, then Devil's Backbone and the summit. Natalie was making a great pace, with dad (me) huffing and puffing a bit, but staying in sight. The summit was super crowded with 40 people or so when we arrived. After the summit, we headed down, but the wrong trail (trail to Baldy Village). No, worries, I had my Garmin so we went a little off track and found the wreckage of the two Hellcat fighters that crashed on Baldy in the late '40s. Sad to see the downed planes, but a cool piece of history to uncover. We made our way back to the bowl trail and stopped briefly at the Sierra Club hut before returning to Mankar. A good, but tiring day.
