I've always wondered what Mount Diablo was like. I have only seen it in the distance until the day of my hike. We started on Mitchell Canyon Road. The creek and wildflowers were beautiful. By the time we reached the summit, I was starving! Had a nice lunch on a bench outside the Visitors Center, explored for awhile and stood on the actual summit which is inside the Visitors Center and then started back down. Thank GOODNESS I invested in the AllTrails Pro app! It was a little difficult finding a couple of trails and that app made it easy to stay on course. I was ready for the hike to be over when we reached our car. All in all, it was a challenging but beautiful hike. We saw deer, rabbit, turkeys and various bird species. Will definitely do this again!

  1. On Eagle Peak trail heading back to Mitchell Creek from the summit. The AllTrails app shows to take a sort short cut. I eventually found the “trail” but it was overgrown so I took the longer way. Where that shortcut came back out on Eagle Peak trail, it appeared to be a good, clear trail so maybe just the entrance of that trail was overgrown.

    1. I remember seeing that trail on GaiaGPS as well, but never saw the actual trail. Didn’t look really hard, either. How was it coming down that route? I did a clockwise loop (easier on the knees). 😉
