There was a bear scare at Chantry Flats, so the access road from that direction was closed. Had to detour to the original Mount Wilson Trailhead in a Sierra Madre neighborhood. No parking pass needed, just park on the local streets. Clouds at the lower elevations. Trail was in good condition and a nice shady canopy most of the way. This one is tough with a long trail and constant elevation gain. Lots of slide debris on the Mount Wilson Toll Road section of the hike, but easy to navigate. Be sure to make that right turn when you get to the fire road or you will go about an extra half-mile out of the way. The Mount Wilson Observatory campus is incredible. The small museum was open, but the Cosmic Café was closed (only open on weekends). Water was available from the taps at the top. Great hike with one exception – the bugs – they didn't sting or bite, but very annoying.
