Tackled the boy’s first 14+ mile hike today – Mount Wilson!! It actually ended up being 15 because we had to walk about 0.25 to and from the trailhead and then we accidentally took a trail that added a half mile near the top. 4900 feet of elevation gain made for a 5 hour trek up and about 4 on the way down. The bugs were buggin’ in the last two miles to the summit so our bug nets came in handy since even though we weren’t stopping they kept flying into our ears and mouths. We ate lunch at the top – Boy had a hot dog and I had a chicken wrap. Unfortunately they no longer have ice cream sundaes on the menu 😭 (we made one as soon as we got home instead lol). Wandered around for awhile and never found the peak signs, eventually someone pointed us in the right direction but it was about a half mile in the wrong direction so we just took pictures with the USGS markers as we knew we needed to save our legs for the hike down. Plenty of places to stop and filter fresh spring water so we had nice, cold refreshing water the whole hike. Overall it was a long, challenging, day but we really had a nice time.
