We had encountered a lot of cold wind over short leg returning from Griffith peak, until we returned about 10am to saddle point on South rim trail. I had put on my coat for Griffith, but wind calmed we were sweating along the rim trail. Reached peak in afternoon and ate lunch with other fellow hikers in the rock pit near summit, staying out of a cold breeze on mountain top. We elected to try a fork in trail that looked to be a shortcut that would avoid an unnecessary dip in the regular trail. Might have been shorter cut, but think it actually took us longer to negotiate the scree along the ridge. After Charleston peak, we made it back to the South rim trail head about 6pm. Over 14 and a half hours we had visited two peaks in one hike for the Challenge. A bit above this old man's fitness level… but we made it without mishap 🙂
