Started from the Woods Road trail head in the Almaden Quicksilver Park side because I didn’t realize the Sierra Azul entrance to the trail was across the street and I had to go through it anyway. ????????♂️
The weather was great, cloudless blue skies, upper 50’s- low 60’s at the trailhead. There hadn’t been any real rain in over a week, so the trails were dry and in great condition. There were a few muddy patches here and there, but I hiked in tennis instead of hiking shoes and my feet stay dry and clean. I was completely alone on Wood Road and Barlow Rd trails, but had more company on the last 3 miles of the trail to the summit. Not crowded, passed hikers every 5-10 minutes. Could be the time, could be the day of the week, could be everyone else is obeying the shelter in place rules. Who knows? ????????♂️
Made it to the summit in just under 3 hours. Maybe a dozen or so people at the top, everyone pretty spaced out so did not feel crowded at all. Views were amazing! You could see Mt Tam. to the north, the ocean to the west, Mt Diablo across the bay and Mt Hamilton beyond San Jose. Took a few pictures then headed on back down.
Total time to complete the 17 mile round trip was right around 5hrs45mins. My feet are still not talking to me and not looking forward to me completing the rest of the hikes on the challenge!????
