Dec 30, 2022 – Happy New Year’s Eve Eve! 💥
Mt Wilson via Little Santa Anita Canyon
Elevation:  5,713 ft
Total Elevation Gain:  5,112 ft
Distance:  16.2 miles
Been a couple of years since I last summited Mt Wilson.  This was my first time starting at Lizzie’s Trail Inn in Sierra Madre.  The weather was overcast, and even though it didn’t rain, it got wetter and wetter as we climbed into a rain cloud. The trail was very lush and green, like the Appalachian trails on the East Coast. After about 6 miles, with 1 mile left to go to the summit, we poked our heads out of the rain cloud to bright sunny skies.
Most of the trail is well groomed and gently graded, with only a few rocky sections and steep switchbacks. This route is characterized as Hard in AllTrails but I think it’s only because it’s long;  the app says it’s 12.9 miles round-trip, but it’s longer than that. My trip was over 16 miles but I went all the way to the lookout by the Sturtevant trail (closed), and even checked out the observatory museum. From the trailhead start to the Mt Wilson parking lot was 7 miles. Plan accordingly for an awesome hike with incredible views.
