Hike Log

Mt Wilson for the first time

Trailhead:

Upper Winter Creek

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Minor obstacles posing few problems

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were not too bad

Snow:

Intermittent snow – not hard to cross

The sun was warm, there wasn't too much wind. Lots of fallen trees obscuring the trail in quite a few places, but not impossible to find your way over, around, or under. Gorgeous horizon at the top, but the summit itself is crowded with buildings. There was some snow at the top, starting at around 4500 ft elevation, but nothing crazy. Just enough to make me miss the big piles of snow in Washington and Oregon! Lots of moss, the creek helped navigate the way back down. Parking was packed, so we ended up having to pay at the pack station. Good, moderately easy way to start the challenge!
