This was my second time to Mount Umunhum, this time a month earlier in the year and via the easy route; so I got to avoid snakes and take it easy. I've had to ease myself back into hiking after breaking my foot last fall, and the gradual elevation and distance made this a great hike for that. The weather was great: warm but not hot, with significant wind chill at the top of the hike. Baldy Mountain is worth doing while you're there. Both times I've done this hike were on Saturdays and both times there was an event for runners going on, and virtually no parking by 10am. I was lucky to nab a spot at Baldy Mountain or I would have had to park at Mt. Umunhum and do a V-shaped hike. I'm looking forward to completing the Mount El Sobroso side of Sierra Azul Preserve while it's still very green out.
