I had no idea how stunning the views were from Black Butte! We did this trail in May and had a snowfield and snow on top, but spikes were not needed, poles helped. I enjoyed the climb from the bottom, felt super rewarding to get miles in and not many others start from there, so a lot of solitude is within the first 3 miles up. It was about 60 degrees and blue skies, it was perfect! Definitely could do this hike again, felt accomplished when we were done!
